Bart Vargas is a painter and sculptor from Bellevue, Nebraska with a BFA in sculpture from the University of Nebraska Omaha and an MFA from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Bart is currently an artist in residence at the Carver Bank residency in north Omaha.
Graphic artist Joshua Norton will visit the class to discuss art school, BA, BFA and MFA programs. Joshua taught at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and was an artist in residence at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
Off campus visit to the Schrager Collection, a private art collection founded by Phil Schrager. We will speak to Janet Farber, the gallery director, about her career managing this private collection. The gallery is located at 4405 S. 96th street and we will meet there at 2:30 pm. Instructor will leave campus at 2pm if you would like a ride or would like to follow.
Therman Statom is a glass artist whose work is currently on display in the Elkhorn Valley Campus commons. Therman's work is a part of important collections across the United States and around the world. Please watch this video from Kaneko studios to learn more about Therman before his visit.
Private tour of the Hot Shops Art Center by Kelly Adams, Hot Shops Gallery Curator. The Hot Shops is the location of galleries and private artist studios. It is located at 1301 Nicholas Street.
Jesse Ross and Tracy Shell are ceramic artists and owners of the new non-profit business Clementine Porcelain. Jesse is faculty at Iowa Western Community College and Tracy is Associate Professor of Art at Midland University.
Visit to the Sheldon Museum and Art Department at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Please note, this visit will occur on a Friday, date TBD by the class as a group.
Visit to the University of Nebraska Omaha Art Gallery for an exhibition by Joe Pintz and Kristin Martincic. Lecture by Joe Pintz on Oct 3rd at 12pm.
Plus... visits to local galleries, the Joslyn Art Museum and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art. Dates to be determined by the class.
